Have You Seen It?

Have you seen it,
The morning headlines,
On your computer screen?
Email in-box
Water cooler
A moment for a little caffeine

Am I rejecting
Or are you expecting
Fear so bad it’s obscene?
Am I projecting
Because the lie goes down
But it smells like gasoline?

Step by step it’s thumping like a cardiac machine
Keeps the blood pumping and it works like a dream
I can not feel the pain so it must be working fine
I can not find a meaning in my whole damned life
The masses are in transit and the meals in the car.
You’ve never really knew so you forget who you are.
There’s good Kentucky whiskey and goes down smooth
It don’t hide the truth.

Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust
What’s my legacy
The daily clashes
Hope that don’t rust
And a child on a murder spree

I thought I knew you
I thought you cared
I thought that you had my back
I watched and waited,
For a gasping breath
While I died from a heart attack

Eight to five, still alive, over time, higher prime
All the grime, all the slime, white collar crime, doing time
Set aside the money, pay off all the debt
And I quit smoking but I can’t seem to forget
The struggle just to wake up, with a motive to breathe
And the constant lingering feeling that I’m living in a dream
Nothing really matters, I can’t stop all the tears
And there’s nothing that'll buy back all the lost years
